L&MMGA Rules
1. What to do when arriving on the slope: -
* If you are the first member to arrive on site you MUST get the pegboard out. (It’s kept in the metal box by the gate)
* Subsequent members must check the pegboard to see if their own frequency is clear. Place their own tag on the appropriate peg and, carry out a further frequency check at the flight line before switching their transmitter on.
* General flying will not be allowed at the same time as any club competition is in progress (Dates are published well in advance in the newsletter.) Competitions are approximately three hours duration.
* At the Mermaid site, make sure that only one site is used. (Gate or pool site) And, all operating transmitters are grouped together. (Not spread over a large area)
* Your mobile phone must be switched off before you join the flight line
2. Before launching your model: -
* If you are not sure of your ability, please ask for help. (Only applicable if there are other pilots on site)
* Check your model and transmitter are switched on and that the control surfaces operating the correct way round (left is left etc.)
* Announce your intention to launch so that other flyer can take appropriate action.
* In the event of a frequency clash, please inform the other pilot so that they are also aware of the situation. We suggested that 15-minute slots should be used unless other arrangements are agreed.
* In strong winds always seek assistance with your pre-flight checks and the launching of your model, and, launch well in front of the flightline.
3. During flight: -
* NEVER fly over the flight line. There should never be a need to do this.
* Combat flying should be done in a designated area away from the ‘general’ flight line.
* Combat and ‘general flying’ air space should not overlap.
4. Landing: -
* Announce your intention to land so that other flyers are aware of the situation.
* If you are unsure of your ability please ask for help.
* Check that the landing area is clear.
* Avoid landing near other pilots and the model compound.
5. Post flight: -
* Check model for damage. (Controls are still working etc.)
* Switch your receiver and transmitter off.
* Remove your frequency tag from the peg-board and announce that the frequency is clear if other fliers are using the same channel.
* Place your model well away from the flight line.
6. Safe Flying
*All flyers should use the safety code laid down as in the BMFA’s hand book as a general guide to safe flying.
7. POLICY FOR CARING FOR CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE ADULTS
Because of the vagaries of the weather, and isolation of the flying sites, it was decided at the Associations AGM on November 12th 2006 that the only practical solution to the new legislation was to insist that a parent or an appointed
guardian must be present and accept responsibility for the child or Vulnerable adult at all time and no member of the L&MMGA is to be expected to assume responsibility for a child or a vulnerable adult.
* All members are required to respect the rights and dignity of children and vulnerable adults and to promote their welfare
* A junior member is defined as being under the age of 18 years
* A vulnerable adult is defined as a person of 18 years of age or over but through mental or physical attributes requires a higher level of supervision than would be normally commensurate with an adult member.
8. Powered Models
The only powered models that may be flown on any of the Club’s sites are power assisted gliders. A power assisted
glider is defined as an aircraft which has all the characteristics of a true glider but may be equipped with an electric motor
and folding propeller for intermittent use in gaining and maintaining altitude when slope lift is insufficient.
If a powered scale model of an aircraft other than a glider is to be flown as a PSS then the pilot must be able to
demonstrate that the power system has been disabled, by prior removal of the prop or fan or by disconnecting power to
the motor's). A closed throttle does not count as “power disabled”.
Because of the tenuous situation between modellers and the Peak Parks, we must keep the Club secure from charges of environmental disturbance through noise. Members or visiting fliers who stretch the definition of quiet or assisted power may spoil the day for others. Even more important, they expose the club to attack from those who may have their own and divergent agendas from our own.
9. Insurance
* All members and guest fliers must have adequate third party insurance cover. e.g BMFA.
10. Country code: -
* Please take all your litter home with you.
* DO NOT use the metal box by the gate as a waste bin.
* DO NOT climb over walls and fences. Use stiles and gates whenever possible
* Always close gates. (Request by Elkstone farmer – Please leave gate has you find it Open or Shut)
* Dogs must be kept on a leash particularly at lambing time
* Last person off site must make sure that the peg-board is put back into the box
Regretfully, members who constantly flout the above will be asked to leave the L&MMGA.
In the interest of road safety, there should be no more than six cars parked at the ‘gate’ site and under no circumstances should cars ever U-turn here.
